Palm Tree
watercolor pencil on paper

Inspired by Kathy's seaside art retreat. This palm tree is from the instruction book, Watercolor Pencil Magic by Cathy A. Johnson.
I have discovered that going back and just touching the already wet image with a color pencil gives a nice rich color for contrast. That is how I created the shadows on the trunk and the lower fronds - dry into wet. And then, no more water.
Aren't palm trees fun? Laure had us start our fronds with yellow, then add the greens and browns or whatever colors we wanted to add. I like the effect you've gotten by only touching part of the color with water. I will have to try that with my wc pencils.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of my favorites. I think the watercolor pencils were perfect for this image as I could keep the green fronds and the dried fronds looking separate. Thanks for the inspiration!
